The Student Work Experience Programme (SWEP) for the Nile University Engineering department students has already commenced. The programme, scheduled to run for 4 weeks, is designed to provide participating students the practical skills of general workshop and safety practices in the use of tools and equipment, as they are obtainable in the real world of engineering practices.
It is designed in two modules namely; SWEP I & SWEP II – each module, having one credit unit, is to run for 4 weeks. The activities that will be carried out include: Orientation lectures, Familiarization tour to activity areas, Bench work, Machining, Metal joining, Electrical/Electronic circuits, Construction, and Manufacturing. Others are Air Conditioner and Refrigeration works, Water works, Building works, Wood works, Plant maintenance, Motor Vehicle maintenance, etc.
Participants are to acquire their safety kits: comprising of overalls, safety boots, helmet, hand-gloves, transparent and dark googles, etc. Accommodation and feeding will be provided by the school; as participants are expected to camp in the school hostels.
Students should note that absenteeism, lack of participation in activities, etc. will lead to failure and subsequent carry-over of the course. It is mandatory that all participants attend the orientation lectures, to have the necessary rules and guidelines for the programme.
For the 2016/2017 200 and 300 Level Engineering students, SWEP shall be conducted as follows:
FIRST GROUP (SWEP I) 200 LEVEL—3RD JULY, 2017 – 28TH AUGUST, 2017
SECOND GROUP (SWEP II) 300 LEVEL – 3RD JULY, 2017—28TH AUGUST, 2017
