The China Cultural Center in collaboration with Nile University held the Chinese speech contest on August 29, 2019. The event which was hosted by Nile University was graced by Mr. Li Xuda (Cultural Counselor, Embassy of PRC in Nigeria and Director, China Cultural Center) and other staff of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Robin Liu (Senior Account manager, Huawei Technologies), Prof. Kemal Ozden (Dean, Nile School of Postgraduate Studies), among other notable individuals. The event began with an address from Prof. Ozden, who highlighted the good relationship between Nile University and the Chinese Cultural Center and expressed the institution’s delight at hosting the speech writing competition which he hoped would further strengthen the bond between both organizations. Following Prof. Ozden’s speech was an address by Li Xuda, who briefly discussed the Chinese culture.
Subsequently, the competition began. A total of seven schools (Nile University, University of Abuja, Ahmadu Bello University, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Lagos State University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and University of Lagos) participated in the contest. During the competition, each participant was given five minutes to give a presentation on China. At the end of the contest, the top 10 students advanced to the final round of the competition, which is scheduled to hold on September 7, 2019, at the Chinese Cultural Center in Abuja. In addition, they were awarded Huawei phones (one per person). The rest of the participants were awarded Bluetooth speakers in recognition of their efforts during the contest.
