A seminar titled, “The Future plans for Women in Nigeria; Key to Successes and Possible Challenges” was held by the Economics department on May 11, 2018. The keynote speaker was Mrs. Brenda Ataga, the senior adviser, downstream and infrastructure, to the Honourable Minister of State and Petroleum.
In her speech, she touched on the PIB bill that was passed by the Senate, and its importance; it is aimed at helping the country diversify into the gas sector, as well as in the creation of jobs. Mrs. Ataga also spoke about the need to commercialize the refineries—by allowing potential investors to invest in them—in order to increase their efficiency. Going further, she talked about the challenges of being the only female in a male dominated industry.
The conference ended with a question and answer session during which Mrs. Ataga fielded questions from the audience.
