Nurse Hub Africa, in collaboration with Nile University’s student affairs department held a symposium to mark the International Nurses week. Notable attendees at the program included Mrs. Modupe F. Aleshinloye (Deputy Dean of Student Affairs), a representative from the Tonto Dikeh foundation, and the nurses from Nurse Hub Africa, to name a few. The event, themed “The Effects of Drug and Substance Abuse on our Youth, was aimed at creating awareness of the serious dangers posed by drug abuse to our society. This sentiment was echoed in the addresses by the event’s various presenters; a common theme in these presentations was that the knowledge of the negative effects of drug abuse is important not only to the users but also the non-users. This, according to them, is because such knowledge will enable the non-users to educate the ignorant users on the dangers of these harmful substances. During the event, the audience also learned the different classes of drugs such as stimulants (e.g. cocaine), depressants (e.g. cannabis), etc. as well as the most abused substances.

Overall, it was an exciting and educative program which achieved its objective of sensitizing students to the harmful effects of drug abuse.
